Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, Flamingoes have clinched the bronze medal at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after defeating Germany 3-2 on penalties.
The Flamingoes opened the scoring via talisman, Opeyemi Ajakaye after an early goal from Germany was ruled out.
Nigeria made all efforts to double their lead before halftime but the game will end at halftime with the Flamingoes on a slim 1-0 lead.
Aminat Bello then smashed home to grab the second for Nigeria before super sub Etim Edidiong added the third to give the Flamingoes a comfortable three-goal lead on 62 minutes.
That comfort, however, came back to hunt them as the Germans pulled an unbelievable comeback to send the game into penalty shootout.
Flamingoes then sealed their triumph in the shootout, pipping the Germans 3-2.
Bankole Olowookere’s side finishing third-place ranks the best finish for Nigeria in the history of the competition.
