- Calls on President Tinubu to accord Community its rightful position
The Omo Epetedo Forum rejoices with all Sons and Daughters of Epetedo Community on the remembrance of June 12, 1994 struggle where-in the Community hosted Late Bashorun MKO Abiola, winner of freest, fairest and most credible election in Nigeria’s history, where Epetedo Declaration birthed what Nigerians enjoy today.
The OEF notes that steadfastness and sagacity of Epetedo People gave Nigeria what is today celebrated as Democracy. As a Community, we went through pains, shackles of Military oppression, suppression, subversion of justice, illegal arrests, wanton killings, intimidation and unjust crucifixion of our people. Leaders of our community, particularly Late Ambassador Senator Wahab Olaseinde Dosunmu was a major target, he was declared Wanted after several attempts on his life, his home raided, family tortured, But for the sake of God, he would have equally suffer the senseless murder Alhaja Kudirat Abiola suffered. We ask Almighty God to make Aljanah Fridaus his final abode.
It is sad that for years, Epetedo Community has been abandoned, created atmosphere for lawlessness to thrive. Illicit drug merchants, cyber criminals and young ladies forced into prostitution due to high rate of unemployment or under employment, poor parenting and lack of government presence have overshadowed the flimsy projects politicians jump over. Till date, the community is so marginalised in terms of political relevance in the scheme of things. But for their relentless efforts, hard work, individual push and prayers; the community wouldn’t have secured the meagre appointments it got today. It is alarming, highly barbaric and so disgusting to note that politicians run helter skelter, prostrating while seeking votes of our people but unfortunately, abandone same people when it comes to sharing of political power immediately after elections. Enough is Enough.
We call on our Action President, the only Nigerian Leader who came prepared for the job, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to promptly intervene and ensure Epetedo people are not placed backward or render irrelevant as we start another dispensation. It will be our joy if the President prevails on Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to also follow suit. The community has been short-changed over the years.
It should be understood that the Epetedo People fought rigourously, suffered and endured the pains for Nigeria and indeed Nigerians to enjoy what is today called Democracy.
While we enjoin our people not to lose focus, we appeal to us all to support the government in all its plan to bring us Lagos, and Nigeria of our dream. Happy Democracy Day.
