Jigawa photographer found hanging, NSCDC begins probe

The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria and Civil Defence Corps, on Thursday, said its personnel found a photographer identified as Usman Goga, hanged in his bedroom at Akula Quarters, the Babura Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday.

The command’s spokesman, Adamu Shehu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

Shehu said the body of the deceased was discovered by his wife after returning home from a visitation.

The statement quoted the deceased’s wife as saying that her husband dropped her at one of her relatives’ home on the day around 2pm, promising to pick her up later in the evening.

She was further quoted as saying that around 5pm, she repeatedly called his cell phone without response, which informed her decision to board a commercial vehicle back home only to realise that she had no keys to open the door.

The statement read in part, “She decided to call his phone again but to no avail, .prompting her to seek the assistance of a motorcyclist to jump over the wall and unlock the main entrance from inside.

“Upon opening the door, she saw her husband’s motorcycle parked inside, which is unusual, so she hurried into the house only to find the body of her husband hanging from their bedroom’s ceiling fan. She promptly collapsed at the horrific and gory sight.”

The statement added that the motorcyclist called neighbours who rushed to the scene.

“The body was then untied, brought down and rushed to the hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival by a medical practitioner,” the statement added.

An investigation is said to be currently ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The deceased has, however, been buried according to Islamic rites.
