The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, Mallam Abidu Yazid, is dead.
In a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Dr Fola Olowoleni, on Thursday, it was stated that the governing council chairman died in the early hours of today in his house after a brief illness.
Olowoleni said, “This is to formally notify you of the sudden demise of our beloved Governing Council Chairman, Mallam Abidu Yazid. The sad incident occurred in the early hours of today, Thursday, September 22, 2022.
“We pray God for the repose of his soul and also pray God to grant him eternal rest. May God forgive his shortcomings and admit him to Aljanah Fridaus.
“The university community condoles with the family, the emirate, the Katsina State Government and the entire people of Katsina State. We pray God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” the statement said.
The statement was posted on boards within the campus.
The last assignment undertaken by Yazid led governing council at the University of Ilorin, was the appointment of Professor Wahab Egbewole as the Vice-Chancellor designate of the university on September 8, 2022.
Egbewole will resume as the Vice-Chancellor of the university on October 16, 2022 ,to succeed Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, whose tenure will expire on October 15, 2022.
